Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is a key part of Vedanta’s strategy and overall ethos. It represents a core commitment of our management and employees.

We believe that businesses will increasingly play a significant role in tackling and driving the sustainability challenge. Our focus on sustainability drives our conviction to pursue value creating projects and at the same time achieve positive environmental, social and health and safety outcomes.

This website section highlights our policies, systems, performance and news in this important area. The section also showcases case study examples of our extensive sustainable development programmes. These include:

  • Our focus on the empowerment of women in the communities we operate in;
  • How we positively impact the local communities that are based in and around our joint venture project at Lanjigarh in Orissa;
  • Our integrated approach to the challenges presented by HIV/AIDS in Zambia;
  • Details of our numerous health and education projects which are conducted all over India and in Zambia;
  • Our revolutionary application of geo-textiles for the management of mine residues; and
  • Our new employee learning programme, Nav Chetna, that encourages the desire to excel and bring about a cultural transformation within our group of companies.

We intend to develop this section of our website over time and welcome any feedback concerning any aspect of our sustainable development activities. This can be submitted by using the Tell Vedanta facility.
